Charity Work

At Central England Specialist Referral Centre we’re very much aware that our role in the community is not just one of providing a service to the public through dental care and education. We believe that as a business we have a responsibility to be an active member and contributor to a better society. We always strive to save resources in our everyday practice, we give staff one fully paid day off a year to volunteer their time to local charities and we have a dedicated charity that we fundraise and donate to through the year.

In 2014 we became aware of the charity Breaking The Silence. It’s founder, Raj Holness, set up the charity after her own childhood battle to escape an abusive family. The charity aims to raise awareness of issues around domestic abuse, forced marriages and human trafficking. They work with victims and support them to break the cycle of intimidation, empowering and encouraging them to seek help.

  • 1 in 3 women will be a victim of domestic abuse in their lifetime
  • 1 incident of domestic abuse is reported to police every minute in the UK
  • 10,000 forced marriages take place in the UK each year
  • 2.5 million people are forced in labour following human trafficking

In 2015 we set our target £5,000 and we were delighted to surpass that goal and donate £6,000! Since then we have donated over £20,000 and we are all committed to arranging fundraising events and pushing that donations total higher!

Dr Neil Wilson is an active provider of education, training and mentoring to other dentists in the Midlands and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Birmingham Dental Hospital and as of September 2015 he has donated all his lecture fees to our nominated charity and will continue to do so going forward.

Last year’s activities included sponsored runs, cake baking, pumpkin carving and fancy dress! There’ll be more of the same and some new ideas in 2018!
