Bupa Recognised Facility for Oral Surgery

We are now a Bupa recognised facility for oral surgery

What is oral surgery?

Oral surgery is a term that encompasses a range of treatments offered by dentists, oral surgeons, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Maxillofacial means relating to the jaw or face.

Routine surgical procedures such as tooth removal can be carried out by your general dentist, but you may be referred to a specialist oral surgeon for more complex treatments like wisdom tooth removal or cyst removal.

After a vigorous assessment process to make sure that our Centre met the specific high standards required of a Bupa facility, we are pleased to announce that our Centre is now a Bupa recognised facility for oral surgery. This means if you have Bupa cover your dentist can refer you to our centre for your treatment.

What kinds of treatment might require oral surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons provide treatment for problems relating to the jaws and face. Specialists in this area can help patients with a huge range of concerns. Here are some of the most common treatments requiring oral surgery:

  • Impacted wisdom teeth– when a wisdom tooth fails to fully emerge, causing swelling, pain and sometimes infection
  • Complex extractions – difficult roots or nerve involvement
  • Jaw related problems – issues with unequal jaw growth or TMJ dysfunction may require surgical intervention
  • Facial injury repair – oral surgeons may repair fractured jaws or broken facial bones
  • Removal of dental cysts – a closed sac filled with air or fluid that forms near a tooth or at the tip of a tooth’s roots
  • Oral cancer screening that requires a biopsy

Google Review D Churchill July 2023

“I recently underwent a substantial surgical intervention encompassing the extraction of front teeth, bone grafting, and the removal of a cyst. Naturally, I was consumed by a considerable amount of anxiety regarding these invasive procedures. However, I must express my utmost appreciation to Luis for his ability to ease my concerns by providing reassurance, guidance, and comprehensive information. From the initial consultation to the subsequent aftercare, I felt consistently well-informed throughout every stage of the process. I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Luis and Summy for their outstanding service. Their commitment to excellence truly exceeded my expectations, significantly eased what could have been a negative experience. I would highly recommend Luis and his team.”

What is the treatment process?

Your dentist can refer you to the Centre as normal. We will need your Bupa preauthorisation code to register you on our system. Our oral surgeon Luis Bruzual will see you for a consultation and explain your treatment options to you and answer any questions that you may have. If you need help with your referral you can contact the practice and speak to a member of our reception team.

Help for nervous patients

At Central England Specialist Referral Centre, we understand that many people are anxious about visiting the dentist especially for oral surgery procedures. Our staff receive extra training on how to support nervous patients and are trained in dental sedation to help your treatment journey go as smoothly as possible. If you are sedated for treatment, you will still be conscious and be able to converse with the team but you will not remember any of the procedure once the sedation has worn off.
